Before Your First Ride

• Read the Owner's Manual.
• Take a lesson with a qualified instructor or an Aerofoils partner.
• Riders must be at least 16 years old, or older where state law sets a higher minimum age. Riders under 18 may ride only under adult supervision.

US Rules for eFoils

In most US states an eFoil is legally a motorized vessel; the US Coast Guard classifies it as a mechanically propelled personal hydrofoil. Check with your state boating agency before you ride. Typical rules:

• Registration and registration numbers on the board; some states, such as Florida and California, also require a title. Your board has a hull identification number (HIN) and comes with a certificate of origin for this.
• A boating safety card, which many states require; California and New York require one for all operators of motorized vessels.
• Minimum operator ages, often between 12 and 16. Some states apply personal watercraft rules.
• A US Coast Guard-approved life jacket. We recommend always wearing one, together with a helmet.
• Local speed limits, no-wake zones and waters closed to motorized craft.

Riding Safely

• Always use the magnetic kill switch as described in the manual. It stops the motor as soon as you fall.
• Keep at least 500 feet (about 150 m) from swimmers, boats and other riders, and ride only in water at least 5 feet (1.5 m) deep.
• The hydrofoil wings have sharp edges and the propeller inside the jet drive can cause serious injury. Keep hands and feet clear, and switch the system off before you handle the board in the water.
• Never ride alone, after dark, in storms, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• Check weather, wind and current before every session.
