Boards come back to us for all sorts of ordinary reasons. Demo use, a return, a scratch from transport, a repair that went fine. None of that stops a board from working the way it was built to work. It does stop us from selling it as new at the full price. So those boards go back through the workshop, get whatever they need, and go out again as refurbished.
Refurbished boards come from different places.
Some were bought and returned, some were used as demo boards at events and in showrooms, some picked up a mark in transport, and some came back from a repair. None of that changes what the board can do on the water after it went through the refurbishment process.
The set is taken apart completely and every component is inspected on its own, from the board and the drive down to the cables and fittings. Components in good condition stay, components that are worn or damaged are repaired or replaced, and the work is done by our team and by the german manufacturer that builds our battery packs.
A board is only sold as refurbished once it has been through the whole process and passed the final check. Every component that was refurbished is measured against the specification that applies to a new product, technically and in terms of safety. If it meets that specification, the set is released.
Refurbished at Aerofoils means a component was completely disassembled, inspected, repaired and re-certified to the same technical and safety specification as a new product, by the original manufacturer, and the set is then sold at a reduced price. The components involved were either owned and returned, used for demo and display, or carry minor cosmetic blemishes. In practice that means hulls are repaired and repainted where needed, battery packs are checked and technically reconditioned by the German manufacturer that builds them, and every relevant part on the drive is replaced.
The availability of refurbished sets is limited and changes continuously, because each board is a single item with its own history. Aerofoils does not publish a live stock list, so the fastest way to find out what is available right now is to send an availability request through the form on this page.
It varies from set to set. A refurbished Aerofoils set is made up of components that were owned and returned, come from demo and display use, or carry minor cosmetic blemishes, and a set can also combine refurbished components with new ones.
No. Every refurbished component is re-certified to the same technical and safety specification as a new product before the set goes back on sale, and that re-certification is carried out by us, the original manufacturer. The differences between a refurbished and a new Aerofoils are the price, the warranty term including a 1-year warranty and, on some boards, minor cosmetic marks. How the board performs on the water is not one of them.
After you submit the form, our Aerofoils team checks whether the model you asked about is still available and what condition that specific board is in. You then get a reply and a non-binding offer describing the actual board. Nothing is reserved or charged at that point, and you can ask as many follow-up questions about the board as you like before deciding.
