Yacht Toys: Why an eFoil Belongs on Your Yacht and Which One to Choose
The best yacht toys compared, and why an eFoil is the headline toy for many yachts. Which board fits, how to store and charge it, and what crew need to know.
Key Takeaways
- An eFoil is one of the best yacht toys: it packs into bags, runs quietly without fuel and lets guests fly above the water after one short session.
- Which board fits depends on your guests and your space. Inflatables are soft on the hull and pack small; carbon boards feel more direct.
- The inflatable Aerofoils Hyperfly is the easiest to ride; the carbon Adventure is large and very stable; the Performance with the Aeroloop serves beginners and sporty riders in one board.
- Owners expect a toy that matches the yacht: well made, reliable, easy for crew and backed by service. A premium eFoil with an integrated jet drive fits that best.
- Two batteries and a fast charger keep one eFoil running most of the day. Plan a safe charging place on board.
- Want to try it first? Our partner World of eFoil runs eFoil yacht safaris in the Red Sea, where you can test an eFoil on a yacht for a whole week.
Short answer: an eFoil belongs on almost every yacht that carries water toys. It needs little space, no fuel and only a short briefing, and it gives guests a moment they remember. Which board fits depends on your guests: the inflatable Aerofoils Hyperfly is the easiest to ride, while carbon boards such as the Adventure and the Performance suit stable or sporty riding. Add simple paddle toys for everyone else.
Yacht toys are the water sports equipment a yacht carries for its guests, from paddleboards and inflatables to jet skis, underwater scooters and eFoils. An eFoil is an electric surfboard with an underwater wing, the hydrofoil, that lifts the board above the water once it gains speed. Think of it like a small plane for the sea: the wing does the work, and you glide silently above the surface.
What Are the Best Yacht Toys?
The best yacht toys are the ones guests love and crew can run without stress. From superyacht water toys such as jet skis and Seabobs to simple paddleboards, most yachts combine four groups: paddle toys, inflatables, motorised toys and electric toys. Paddle toys need only space. Motorised and electric toys need fuel or charging, a trained crew member and a launch routine, but they also create the biggest moments.
Here is how the four groups compare on board:
| Toy | What guests get | Learning curve | Crew effort | Space on board | Power |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SUP and kayak | Calm exploring, fitness | Minutes | Low | Small, boards stack or inflate | None |
| Inflatable slide or platform | Family fun at anchor | None | High (set-up, pack-away) | Medium when packed | Electric pump |
| Jet ski (PWC) | Speed, towing, exploring | Short, licence rules vary by country | Medium to high | Large: a compact jet ski is about 2.8 to 3 m (9.2 to 9.8 ft) long, 1.2 m (3.9 ft) wide and around 200 kg (441 lb) dry | Fuel |
| Underwater scooter (e.g. Seabob) | Gliding at and below the surface | Minutes | Medium | Small to medium | Lithium battery |
| eFoil | Silent flying above the water | First flight in the first session | Medium | Small, packs into bags | Lithium battery |
The eFoil sits in a sweet spot. It takes about as much space as a paddleboard, needs no fuel and gives guests the "wow" of a motorised toy. On a superyacht with a full toy garage it adds something new. On a smaller yacht it can be the one headline toy.
Before you buy any toy: check where it will live on board, where it will charge and who on the crew will run it. Those three answers rule out more toys than any brochure.

Turquoise water, a quiet bay: the kind of anchorage where an eFoil shines.
Why Is an eFoil a Good Yacht Toy?
An eFoil is a good yacht toy because it combines a big experience with a small footprint. It launches from the swim platform, runs on a battery instead of fuel and is quiet enough not to disturb guests on deck. Most guests learn it in one session, so it works for families, active guests and crew alike.
What makes it work on a yacht:
- Small footprint: board, drive and battery travel in bags. No cradle, no crane.
- Quiet and clean: the electric drive makes little noise and leaves no fuel or exhaust in the bay.
- Easy launch: guests start lying on the board right next to the swim platform.
- Quick to learn: take-off is at about 20 km/h (12 mph), and most first-timers fly in their first session.
- Fun for every level: beginners cruise calmly above the water, experienced riders carve turns around the anchorage.
We see this up close at yacht shows. We have shown our boards, back then partly still under the name Audi e-tron foil, at the Monaco Yacht Show and the Cannes Yachting Festival and ridden them between the yachts in the harbour. Crew on charter yachts have tested eFoils for years, too: in a guest article on our blog, the yacht service company Ocean Premium describes the crew perspective after a season in the Caribbean.
What Do Yacht Owners Expect from an eFoil?
Luxury yacht toys have to match the yacht. Owners expect a water toy to be well made, reliable, easy for crew and guests to use and backed by real service. A toy that fails mid-charter or needs constant tinkering costs crew time and spoils the day for guests. That is why premium eFoils suit yachts best.
What that means in practice, and how our eFoils deliver it:
- Build quality you can see: carbon hardboards and inflatable boards with a clean, integrated design that suits a well-kept yacht.
- An integrated jet drive: motor and jet sit inside the mast, and the wings bolt straight onto the drive. There are no add-on parts to work loose, and the propeller runs inside a housing. Aerofoils was the first to bring a jet drive to eFoiling.
- Fewer steps for crew: the drive is screwed on firmly, so crew assemble it once per season instead of before every session. They can replace the impeller and nozzle themselves.
- Easy for guests: customers tell us our boards ride very stably, which helps beginners most, and that our remote with its sunlight-readable colour display is the best on the market.
- Service you can plan: a service every 100 operating hours or 12 months keeps the eFoil in shape and extends the warranty from one to two years. Our service centre is in Bavaria, Germany, and partner service points are on our service map.
A well-kept premium eFoil fits the image of the yacht. For many guests it becomes the moment they talk about after the charter.
Which eFoil Is Best for a Yacht?
The best eFoil for a yacht depends on who rides and how much space you have. Inflatable boards are soft on the hull and the teak and pack small. Carbon hardboards feel more direct and weigh less to carry. Our four sets cover every combination on board, from relaxed cruising with first-timers to sporty rides for experienced guests.
Our sets compared for life on board:
| eFoil set | Board | Strengths on a yacht | Rider weight | Board weight | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
![]() Aerofoils Hyperfly |
Inflatable | Easiest to ride; relaxed cruising for every guest | up to 120 kg (265 lb) | 20.8 kg (46 lb) | €14,499 |
![]() Aerofoils Airfly |
Inflatable | Compact and light; for guests who have ridden before | up to 110 kg (243 lb) | 19.3 kg (43 lb) | €11,799 |
![]() Aerofoils Adventure |
Carbon hardboard | Large and very stable; good for beginners | up to 120 kg (265 lb) | 11 kg (24 lb) | €14,269 |
![]() Aerofoils Performance |
Carbon hardboard | 2-in-1: sporty, and with the Aeroloop also for beginners | up to 110 kg (243 lb) | 9.2 kg (20 lb) | €14,269 |
Aerofoils Hyperfly: the easiest ride. The inflatable Hyperfly is the most beginner-friendly board in our range. Practically anyone can ride it, which makes it a true toy for changing guests: on it, beginners fly after about 20 minutes. It is made for relaxed cruising above the water rather than sporty riding. Its 60 cm (24 in) mast includes the Anti-Breach System, which limits how high the board can rise, so nervous guests stay close to the water. Our guide to flight height control explains how it works.
Aerofoils Airfly: the compact one. The inflatable Airfly is the smallest and lightest of our inflatable boards, 173 x 73 cm (68 x 29 in) when inflated and 19.3 kg (43 lb). Packed, it shares the same compact bag as the Hyperfly. It is more demanding to learn than the Hyperfly or the Adventure, so it suits guests who have ridden before.
Aerofoils Adventure: large and stable. The Adventure is a large carbon board that lies very steadily in the water, so beginners feel safe on it quickly. Its bag needs a little more room, 183 x 79 x 20 cm (72 x 31 x 7.9 in), and at 11 kg (24 lb) the board is easy to carry.
Aerofoils Performance: the 2-in-1. The carbon Performance, previously sold as the Audi e-tron foil Performance, is the sporty board in this group. Add the Aeroloop, an inflatable ring that fits around the board, and it becomes a beginner board too: the ring adds stability and buoyancy and puts a soft edge around the hard board, which protects it from knocks against the hull and the swim platform. Take the ring off, and experienced riders get the full sporty ride.
Our guide to inflatable vs hardboard eFoils compares both board types, and our Board Match Quiz helps you decide.
One set for every guest. All our front wings and stabilizers, both masts and both batteries fit every one of our boards. Start beginners on a large front wing, then fit a smaller front wing when experienced guests want a sportier, faster ride. The same board then serves first-timers in the morning and confident riders in the afternoon.
Where Do You Store an eFoil on a Yacht?
Store the board, drive and battery where they are protected, secured for passage and easy to launch. Large yachts use a tender garage or beach club. Smaller yachts use the lazarette, the storage space in the stern, a deck locker or the flybridge. Measure the space before you buy, including the doors and hatches the bags must pass through.
These are the sizes of our four sets, from our product pages:
| eFoil set | Board type | Board size | Bags | Board weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aerofoils Hyperfly | Inflatable | 215 x 92 cm (85 x 36 in) | One large bag for everything, with the drive and wing bags inside: 135 x 75 x 35 cm (53 x 30 x 14 in) | 20.8 kg (46 lb) |
| Aerofoils Airfly | Inflatable | 173 x 73 cm (68 x 29 in) | One large bag for everything, with the drive and wing bags inside: 135 x 75 x 35 cm (53 x 30 x 14 in) | 19.3 kg (43 lb) |
| Aerofoils Adventure | Carbon hardboard | 176 x 72 cm (69 x 28 in) | Board bag 183 x 79 x 20 cm (72 x 31 x 7.9 in), plus one bag for drive, mast and wings | 11 kg (24 lb) |
| Aerofoils Performance | Carbon hardboard | 153 x 67 cm (60 x 26 in) | Board bag 160 x 74 x 20 cm (63 x 29 x 7.9 in), plus one bag for drive, mast and wings | 9.2 kg (20 lb) |
The inflatable sets pack everything except the battery into one large bag: the smaller drive and wing bags fit inside it. The carbon sets come in two bags, one for the board and one for the drive, mast and wings. The battery travels separately: the Light weighs 8.8 kg (19 lb) and the Endurance 13 kg (29 lb). Store the battery separately.
Store batteries apart from the boards. UK guidance for yachts, MGN 681 (M) Amendment 1 from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), names eFoils explicitly. It recommends storing spare or removable batteries above 100 Wh in a dedicated battery cabinet or locker, or in a secured cabinet on open deck, away from combustibles and escape routes. Our batteries hold 1.13 or 2.23 kWh, so this applies to them. After every session in the sea, rinse board and drive with fresh water before you stow them, as our saltwater care guide shows.
How Do You Charge an eFoil on Board?
Charge an eFoil, like all electric yacht toys, in one fixed, supervised place and follow the charger's instructions. The MCA guidance recommends charging only in dedicated spaces, by competent crew, with an automatic stop if fire or heat is detected. Damaged batteries must never be charged. On smaller yachts without a battery compartment, plan a safe spot with your yard or surveyor.
Charge time decides how much riding guests get:
| Light battery | Endurance battery | |
|---|---|---|
| Capacity | 1.13 kWh | 2.23 kWh |
| Ride time (maximum) | up to 60 minutes | up to 120 minutes |
| Weight | 8.8 kg (19 lb) | 13 kg (29 lb) |
| Fast charger, 0 to 100 % | about 1 h 15 min | about 2 h |
| Standard charger, 0 to 100 % | about 2 h 15 min | about 3 h 30 min |
The planning trick is a second battery. With two Endurance batteries and the fast charger, one battery charges in about two hours while the other rides for up to two hours. That keeps one board in the water for most of the day. Don't forget the remote: it runs up to 13 hours and charges in about 4.5 hours, so an overnight charge covers a full day.
What Should Crew Know Before Guests Ride?
Crew should know the eFoil well enough to teach it, launch it and stop it. The MCA guidance recommends training crew in the safe operation, storage and charging of electric watercraft and appointing one named person on board as responsible. In practice, that person also runs the guest briefing and watches from the tender.
A good guest briefing takes about ten minutes and covers five points:
- The remote: how to accelerate, how to stop and what happens when you let go.
- Falling: away from the board and the foil, never onto it.
- Protective gear: helmet and impact vest on, every time. Our helmet and impact vest are made for this.
- Where to ride: away from swimmers, the swim platform and the anchor chain.
- Signals: how the guest calls for help and how crew calls them back.
Start guests lying on the board, then kneeling, standing and finally flying, just like in an eFoil course. The free Aerofoils Academy teaches set-up and riding step by step, which helps new crew prepare before the season. Our pre-ride safety checklist works well as a printed card for the tender.
From the swim platform: launch on the side away from the passerelle and the tender. A calm, deep spot a little away from the stern is the best classroom.
Rules at Anchor: Speed Zones, Registration and Licences
Every coast has its own rules, and they apply to an eFoil like any other craft. Before guests ride, check the local speed zones, swimming areas and whether the board needs a registration or licence. When in doubt, ask the marina or harbour office.
What we know for certain about the main yachting regions:
- United States: the US Coast Guard treats eFoils as vessels (Policy Letter 01-22). They need a hull identification number and state registration, and riders carry a life jacket and a whistle. Florida requires boater education for operators born on or after 1 January 1988 on vessels of 10 hp or more.
- France: on the Mediterranean coast, the préfecture maritime limits registered vessels and craft to 5 knots within the 300 m (984 ft) coastal strip.
- Italy: the local harbour office (Capitaneria di porto) sets swimming zones and distances each season in its bathing ordinance.
- UK-flagged and other yachts: the MCA guidance MGN 681 (M) Amendment 1 sets out good practice for storing and charging electric toys. Flag-state and class rules come first.
- Switzerland: eFoils are currently not allowed on public waters, including the big lakes.
Our eFoil guide covers the rules for Germany, Austria, the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Turkey in more depth, and our article on eFoil insurance explains the basics of cover.

Helmet and impact vest on: the standard for every guest ride.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What are the best toys for a yacht or superyacht?
A mix works best: one headline toy such as an eFoil, paddle toys such as SUPs and kayaks for everyone, and snorkel gear or an inflatable platform for quiet hours. An eFoil gives the biggest moment for the least space, because it packs into bags and needs no fuel.
Is an eFoil a good toy for a yacht?
Yes. An eFoil launches from the swim platform, packs into bags, runs quietly on a battery and most guests fly in their first session. It needs a safe charging place on board and a crew member who knows how to brief guests.
Which eFoil is best for a yacht?
It depends on your guests and your space. The inflatable Aerofoils Hyperfly is the easiest to ride and suits changing guests; the compact Airfly is harder to learn. The carbon Adventure is large and very stable, and the Performance becomes a beginner board with the inflatable Aeroloop ring. All our wings, masts and batteries fit every board.
Can you charge an eFoil on a yacht?
Yes. Charge it in one fixed, supervised place, never a damaged battery, and follow the charger's instructions. The UK guidance MGN 681 from the MCA recommends dedicated battery spaces and trained crew. Our fast charger fills the Endurance battery in about two hours.
How much space does an eFoil need on a yacht?
One or two bags, plus the battery. Our inflatable sets pack everything into one large 135 x 75 x 35 cm (53 x 30 x 14 in) bag, with the drive and wing bags inside. Our carbon sets use two bags, one for the board and one for drive, mast and wings. The board bag of the Adventure, formerly the Audi e-tron foil Adventure, measures 183 x 79 x 20 cm (72 x 31 x 7.9 in). The battery is stored separately.
Do charter yachts come with water toys?
Many do, but the toy list varies from yacht to yacht. Ask the broker for the list of water toys before you book, and check whether an eFoil and a crew member who can brief guests are on board. On an eFoil yacht safari, the eFoil is part of the trip.
Are yacht toys allowed everywhere at anchor?
No. Swimming zones, speed limits and registration rules differ by coast. France limits craft to 5 knots within 300 m (984 ft) of the Mediterranean shore, the US treats eFoils as registered vessels, and Switzerland doesn't allow eFoils on public waters. Check locally before guests ride.
