Care and safety guide for your Aerofoils battery

The battery is the heart of your eFoil – and the component that benefits most from a good routine. With a few simple habits, your battery will stay reliable for a long time and keep you safe on the water. Here are the key points at a glance.

Keep it dry

Your battery should stay dry. Water, sand and dirt have no place in the connectors, and the battery must never be submerged. If it does get wet – for example, when transported together with a wet wetsuit – clean it with a dry cloth. Please avoid solvents, pressure washers and water jets. Before you connect or charge the battery, the connectors must be completely dry.

Check before every ride

A quick check before heading out can save a lot of trouble later. Start with the battery's connectors and pins: inspect them for dirt – especially sand –, corrosion and bent or pushed-in pins. The connector housing should also be free of cracks, because contamination can impair the seal. Next, check the battery housing and lid for cracks, swelling or deformation, and make sure that all screws and the vent valve are in place. Don't forget the board's seals, both on the lid on top and the mast plate underneath – they need a visual check too and must be free of sand and dirt. If anything raises doubts during this check, better not ride.

After every ride

Once you're back, take a look inside the battery compartment: has it stayed dry? If moisture has found its way in, inspect all seals. If water gets in repeatedly, contact the Aerofoils service. For lasting care, follow a simple rule of thumb: roughly every 10 operating hours – and always after a connector has been wet – put one drop of Corrosion-X (included with your battery) into the data and power connectors. This gives the contacts long-term protection against corrosion. One important detail: dry first, then treat.

Handle with care

Your battery likes a calm life. Throwing it, dropping it or exposing it to impacts is a definite no. Just as important: never open or disassemble the battery yourself. This is reserved for authorised partners only – opening it poses a risk of injury.

Charge safely

When it comes to charging, play it safe. Charge the battery away from flammable materials and on a fire-resistant surface, never unattended and not in direct sun. And crucially: use only the original Aerofoils charger.

Store it correctly

Even outside the season, your battery deserves a good spot. Ideal conditions are cool temperatures between 18 and 23 °C and a dry environment with humidity below 65 %. Direct sunlight is off-limits, and on hot days the battery does not belong in a vehicle. The garage is often a better choice than the living area – provided it's away from heat sources and flammable materials and out of the reach of children. We generally recommend a battery box, which you'll also find in the Aerofoils online shop. As for the charge level: store the battery at 30–60 % and don't keep it fully charged for extended periods.

Warning signs and recommended actions

However good your routine is – if your battery shows cracks, swelling, unusual odour, smoke or unusual heat, or if it has taken a fall or impact, don't continue to use it until our service has assessed the case. Stop using and charging it immediately, move the battery to a safe place outdoors, away from flammable materials, and contact the Aerofoils service right away by phone on +49 9251 438890-0 or via the service form.
